NCT06650969 · RECRUITING

China Diabetes Cognitive Dysfunction Early Diagnosis and Intervention Study (China-DECODE Study)

This is an observational study based in China tracking people with Type 2 diabetes to better understand how and why cognitive problems develop over time, from earliest warning signs through mild impairment to dementia. Researchers are building a detailed database combining brain imaging, biological samples, and cognitive testing. No new drug or device is being tested here — this is a data-gathering effort to improve future diagnosis and treatment. The phase is unspecified, consistent with a registry or cohort study rather than a clinical trial.

You may qualify if

  • Age ≥45 years;
  • Type 2 diabetes diagnosed according to the American Diabetes Association criteria;
  • Willingness and ability to complete systematic neuropsychological tests;
  • Understanding of the research procedures and methods, potential benefits and risks of the trial, and sign written informed consent.

You're excluded if

  • Fewer than 6 years of education;
  • Left-handedness;
  • Dementia;
  • Acute metabolic complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state and hypoglycaemic coma within the previous 3 months;
  • History or presence of neurological or psychiatric disorders;
  • Presence of hypothyroidism;
  • History of malignancy, or severe kidney or liver dysfunction.
